Apple Watch SE 2 screen flickering when holding phone close to it

I have noticed that when I hold my Apple Watch up front to my iPhone with activated cellular, the screen of my watch starts flickering slightly. Like is that normal or is there any other reason to it? Or could this be an issue of the screen? Thanks!

That sounds like it could be an issue with NameDrop. It sounds almost as if it's trying to start NameDrop but failing. Try turning it off and seein what happens.

To turn off NameDrop (and other Bring Devices Together features), go to Settings > General > AirDrop, then turn off Bring Devices Together.

It's unusual for an Apple Watch screen to flicker when you hold it near your iPhone, especially if you have activated cellular on your iPhone. While some minor electromagnetic interference can occur, significant screen flickering is not typically expected. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and address the issue:

### **1. **Check for Interference**

- **Distance:** Try holding your Apple Watch and iPhone farther apart to see if the flickering persists. Electromagnetic interference from the iPhone's cellular signals could potentially cause minor disruptions, but it should not cause noticeable screen flickering.

- **Other Devices:** Ensure that other electronic devices are not causing interference. Move to a different location or turn off nearby devices temporarily.

### **2. Restart Your Devices**

- **Restart Apple Watch:** Press and hold the side button until the Power Off slider appears. Slide to turn off, then press and hold the side button again to turn it back on.

- **Restart iPhone:** Hold the power button and volume button together until the `slide to power off` slider appears. Slide to turn off, then hold the power button again to restart.

### **3. Update Software**

- **Apple Watch:** Open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to `General` > `Software Update`, and make sure your Apple Watch has the latest watchOS version.

- **iPhone:** Go to `Settings` > `General` > `Software Update` to ensure your iPhone is up-to-date.

### **4. Check for Physical Damage**

- **Inspect Screen:** Look for any visible damage or loose components on the Apple Watch screen.

- **Check Case:** If you use a case or screen protector, remove it and see if the flickering persists. Sometimes accessories can affect screen performance.

### **5. Reset Apple Watch**

- **Factory Reset:** If the problem continues, consider resetting your Apple Watch to factory settings. This will erase all content and settings, so make sure to back up any important data:

1. On your Apple Watch, go to `Settings` > `General` > `Reset`.

2. Tap `Erase All Content and Settings`.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

### **6. Contact Apple Support**

- **Apple Support:** If none of the above solutions work, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store. There may be an issue with the screen or internal components that requires professional diagnosis or repair.

### **Additional Considerations**

- **Watch Case and Bands:** Ensure that any watch bands or cases are properly fitted. Sometimes improperly installed accessories can cause unusual behavior.

- **Environmental Factors:** Consider environmental factors such as strong magnetic fields or sources of electromagnetic interference that might affect the screen.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it is best to get in touch with Apple Support for a more detailed assessment. They can provide specific guidance based on your device's condition and help you resolve the problem effectively.

Hey Asha, thank you for your detailed response, I will try your suggestions and they help a lot, I just wanted to add that the screen doesn’t flicker too much, only a few times with the screen looking normal in that time, but on the top or bottom of the screen it sometimes slightly flickers and that part of the screen cuts off for a few milliseconds, I as well checked for any damages to the display, but I couldn’t find anything visible. This only happens when I have cellular on on my iPhone and I discovered it while trying that „hold phones together“ function.

Thanks :)
