Why is my Mac mini showing a grey screen while streaming on BBC iPlayer?

If you are using the BBC iPlayer app, note that it was discontinued on Mac & Windows last March and no longer works. The mobile version of iPlayer is still supported however.

The BBC recommends using your browser to go to bbc.co.uk/iplayer to watch streaming video on a Mac or Windows computer.

The version of Safari in Catalina is outdated and no longer supports most streaming sites.

What you need to do is get and use Mozilla FireFox instead of Safari.

Long story short, I use my 2012 Mac mini running Catalina as a Media Server and must use FireFox instead of Safari to stream Xfinity TV.
