Robotic voice on brand new iPhone 15

(Posting on behalf of my mom) Very recently upgraded from iPhone 12 to an iPhone 15 because people I was calling were having trouble hearing me, my voice would cut off and turn robotic every so often for 30 seconds or so. Called the carrier and they do not have any answers, husband has an even older iPhone and no issues on calls with the same carrier. Upgraded the phone as I assumed that was the issue but issue is still happening. Switched from a physical SIM to an e-SIM and this did not help. At a complete loss here and wondering if switching to Android is the answer. Found an older thread with no resolve so wanted to ask again to see if there’s any new info on this seemingly common issue!

First, I would power cycle the iPhone completely off and back on. If that doesn't work, there's a possibility that there is debris in and around the mic. If you look at the charge port with the screen facing away from you, the mic is the set of holes on the left of the charge port. I've cleaned mine with a soft clean toothbrush when it gets dirty.

I know that this happened on two different iPhones, but have you tried recording a voice memo with the iPhone to rule out mic issues?

Does the robot voice happen with airpods or a headset? Does it happen in both regular phone use and speakerphone? I would also check if WiFi calling is on and if turning it off to use just cellular for calls would help.
