im trying figure out how to receive money on my Apple Pay what is the process?

Try using iMessage. Tell your friend to send you money through iMessage. First they enter your name, phone number or email. Second they tap"+". Third they tap "Cash". Fourth they enter in an amount of cash to send. Fifth they tap send. More, in iOS 18 you will be able to bump phones and receive cash that way too, but not yet.
