M3 Pro trouble with Magsafe charging

Hello for last two weeks, I have problem with Magsafe charging. With usb-c cable i have no problem (with the same power brick), but I would rather use magsafe. Sometimes it works just fine, but sometimes I need to plug the charger 10x times and more. Once in time it just blinks the orange and then nothing. Have anyone run into this issue? Have somebody solve it? I am going to try new charger and then try replacing with warranty or something.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.5

Hello @kryst_O,

It sounds frustrating to deal with inconsistent MagSafe charging! Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check for Debris:

Ensure that there is no dust or debris in the MagSafe port on your MacBook or on the MagSafe connector itself. Even small particles can interfere with the connection.

2. Inspect the Charger:

Since you mentioned that the USB-C cable works fine with the same power brick, the issue might be with the MagSafe charger. Try using a different MagSafe charger if possible to see if the problem persists².

3. Reset the SMC:

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) can sometimes resolve power-related issues. Here’s how you can do it:

- Shut down your MacBook.

- Press and hold the Shift + Control + Option keys on the left side and the power button simultaneously for 10 seconds.

- Release all keys and then press the power button to turn on your MacBook.

4. Software Update:

Ensure that your macOS is up to date. Sometimes, software updates include fixes for hardware-related issues.

5. Warranty and Support:

If the problem continues, it might be a hardware issue. Since your MacBook is relatively new, it should still be under warranty. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for a potential replacement.

6. Community Insights:

You’re not alone in facing this issue. Other users have reported similar problems with MagSafe charging on the M3 Pro. Some have found success by replacing the charger, while others have had to get their devices serviced under warranty.
