Cant update to latest version of installed IOS

Hi, I own an iphone 13pro and still didnt update to the latest available version, which is by the time I type, IOS 17 (17.6.1); therefore, Im still on iphone 16, but just cant update to the latest version of IOS 16 (16.7.10), and Im stuck with 16.7.2. Everytime I try to update, by going to definitions, update, ..., it will offer me to update for latest version of IOS 17... So how can I update to the latest version of installed IOS, if the device support newer versions?

If your device is compatible with iOS 17, it can not be updated to an intermediate version, such as iOS 16.7.10. Your only option is to update to iOS 17.6.1.

Thanks for your reply @stedman1. That's very disappointing! In macOS I can install updates for the current OS installed and still see/ignore the call for newer OS versions... I thought perhaps iOS would allow the same.
