I purchased an AirTag for my dog in case he gets out of the house without me. It updated his location when I updated the AirTag and it hasn’t changed locations yet. My puppy is out with someone now and I went to track him as a test and found it is not working. Why?

You will only get an updated location when there is another iPhone within 30 feet to transmit the location. The AirTag is not a GPS Tracker.
It has not been recommended to be used for animals since they will usually runaway when there is not an iPhone close enough to determine its location, as well as the health hazard if they eat it.
