My MacBook Air is running slow with certain apps

my Mac air is 2020 intel and fully up to date 1.1 GHZ Dual- core Intel( 14.6.1 Sonoma), when I load up some apps like outlook mail it goes through a bouncy castle mode bouncing up and down on the bottom of the screen before lading it seems to take ages. Also the apple mail app takes an age to display emails, that is why I use the outlook app for my main email and apple for iCloud mail. It is the bouncy castle bit that is annoying.

any ideas please.

Try and boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist. If they don't persist in the safe mode it could be happening due to an external piece of software

Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
Log in to your Mac.
You might be asked to log in again.
On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
