Itunes library gone

Went to open my iTunes on my Dell laptop and a message came up saying Folder containing iTunes library cannot be found and is required. Please choose or create a new library.

My iTunes library is on my NAS as it holds over 2000 ripped CD's as there is no room on my computer. For years the iTunes was pointing at the NAS where the music is kept and has not had an issue. Only a few days ago, I opened iTunes and ripped another CD. But now...nothing.

I thought there was something wrong with iTunes, so I uninstalled it and then re-installed it. In the past when I have done this, iTunes kin has loaded, and I was able to go in and type in the path to the music on my NAS, and it immediately loaded. Now, however, the skin does not show just this **** message. When I click on 'choose a library' it simply goes to my PC files, but there is no iTunes music library on my PC.

There is no path on my PC to the music because as I have said I do not keep it in the PC. If I could have the blank iTunes skin, I can go into settings/advanced and type in the path to my NAS, which is what I have done before.

Please can anyone help as it has taken me years to rip all my music onto iTunes and there is no way I can rip over 2000 CD's again.

Strange thing is my Sonos which has the same path to the music files on my NAS still works perfectly from both my PC and my iPhone.

In addition, even when I plug my iPhone into my computer, iTunes skin does not appear, so I cannot even sync my phone. All I get once again is this notification box stating to choose a library.

Why will iTunes just not open as it used to and allow me to put in my music library path to my NAS instead of just showing the 'cannot find the folder containing iTunes library?

As I do not have an iTunes library on my laptop I logged into my NAS and downloaded a previous very small library to my laptop then when asked to choose a library went to that, and I now have the iTunes skin. So far, so good. But this is not my current very large library, as that is on my NAS. So I went into preferences/edit/advanced to re-point iTunes to the library on my NAS as it was up to two days ago. But now I can't just highlight the path shown and delete it and type in another. I have to click on change, which takes me to the files on my laptop...but not my NAS files. They do not show up on my laptop. The NAS icon does, but when I click on it, it simply opens the QNAP NAS through the web but not actually on my laptop. So I cannot pick my iTunes file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
