The clip for Face ID caused my iPad Pro M4 (5th gen) to freeze

I have been having freezing & crashing issues with Safari whenever I encounter an ad clip. Just to make things even more interesting, just now as I was attempting to log onto this community forum, my little Face ID “clip” froze in place as it was doing its job and my browser froze. Again. I waited for the browser to crash. That can take up to 40 seconds or more while I twiddle my thumbs. This time it woke up without crashing, but then I was being asked security questions. I was sent a security number to type in before I could log in. I’m glad that there are these security steps being taken to ensure the proper user is on. But I don’t appreciate my brand new $2600 iPad (with new funky Apple Pencil Pro) crapping out on me. I’m hoping that Apple is working on the problem because I think I have waited too long now to get a refund. I have been using iPads since iPad 2. It was such a delight to use & it helped me to learn how to draw & paint electronically. I love that this new iPad has so many bells & whistles. But what I would love even better is if Safari would stop crashing. I could use Chrome, & do sometimes. But because Chrome doesn’t have Reader to darken the pages at night (I have looked), I always go back to Safari. Plus that’s where all my bookmarks are for my continuous research. The new Apple Pencil Pro that I purchased with the new iPad Pro is having its own issues where while working on my art in Tayasui Sketches Pro, it will pick up every single color it sees as I move the pencil. In other words, it’s changing colors as I go, making it impossible to use. I can’t use any of my other 4 Apple Pencils with my new iPad. They aren’t compatible. So all around, I’m not entirely happy with this purchase. I sincerely hope Apple is working on these problems. If per chance anyone has any suggestions that might help, I’m all ears. Thanks.

Hello,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with your iPad Pro M4 (5th gen) freezing and crashing, particularly with Safari and Face ID. I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially with your new device. Let’s work through some troubleshooting steps to help address these problems.

1. Restart Your iPad Pro

  • Perform a Restart: Press and hold the top button along with the volume up or down button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your iPad, then wait 30 seconds and press the top button again to turn it back on. This simple step can often resolve minor issues.

2. Update iPadOS

  • Check for Updates: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure you have the latest version of iPadOS installed, as updates often include bug fixes and improvements.

3. Clear Safari Cache and Website Data

  • Clear Safari Data: Go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. This can help resolve issues with crashing or freezing caused by corrupted data.

4. Disable Extensions and Content Blockers

  • Check Extensions: Go to Settings > Safari > Extensions and disable any extensions you have installed. Sometimes extensions can cause conflicts or performance issues.
  • Content Blockers: If you have content blockers enabled, try disabling them temporarily to see if it resolves the issue with Safari.

5. Reset Face ID

  • Reconfigure Face ID: Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and choose Reset Face ID. After resetting, set up Face ID again to ensure it’s configured correctly.

6. Test Safari in Safe Mode

  • Safe Mode: Although iPadOS doesn’t have a traditional Safe Mode, you can try using Safari without any additional apps running in the background. Close all apps and test Safari to see if it still crashes.

7. Check Apple Pencil Compatibility

  • Update App: Ensure that Tayasui Sketches Pro is updated to the latest version from the App Store, as updates may fix compatibility issues.
  • Apple Pencil Settings: Go to Settings > Apple Pencil and check for any settings or options that might affect its performance.

8. Check for App Updates

  • Update Apps: Open the App Store, go to your account, and check if there are updates available for Safari or any other apps you’re using. Sometimes, app updates include important bug fixes.

9. Perform a Factory Reset (as a last resort)

  • Backup First: Ensure you’ve backed up your iPad to iCloud or your computer.
  • Reset: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings. This will return your iPad to its factory settings and may resolve persistent issues.

10. Contact Apple Support

  • Further Assistance: If you’ve tried all the above steps and are still experiencing issues, it’s best to contact Apple Support directly. They can provide more specialized assistance and help address any hardware or software problems.

I hope these steps help resolve the issues you’re facing with your iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance!
