Can I play sound through my iPhone and my AirPods at the same time?

I would like for my phone to continue to use its speaker with my AirPods connected. I'm working out in the garage and I like to have some background music playing as background noise. But I also want to have the music playing on my AirPods. I’m not going to turn on the radio and have different music playing than what I actually want to listen to on my AirPods. I can’t find a good answer. I’m not trying to connect to multiple Bluetooth devices and I don’t need live listen. I just want my phone speaker to not shut off when my AirPods are connected.

iPhone 13, iOS 17

Using AirPods and Builtin Speaker Simultaenteouly:

No. What you are looking to perform is not an option. This is because you can only have one audio output device working at a time. If there were more, then you battery would dies nice a quick. And the same goes for Bluetooth, though not applicable to your question.
