Macbook Pro 2010 15" Gray DVDs install?

Hello everyone. I recently bought a used macbook pro 2010 15" with intel i5 2.4ghz but it didn't come with the gray dvds I wanted to put Snow leopard back on it.

The problem is. I see a lot of gray dvds for the macbook pro on ebay and im not sure which one I should get that works with it. I see a lot of 2Z691-***** so I have no clue which one goes with my mac. Can anyone help me out on this puzzle?

Thank you.

Ah yes, 13"...

Mac OS X 10.6.3 (10D2125)

Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F2108)

15"...

Mac OS X 10.6.3 (10D2063a

)Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F2108)

17"...

Mac OS X 10.6.3 (10D2094)

Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F2108)

So the universal for all 3 might be...

IMac OS X & Application Install DVD - OS Version 10.6.4 - Disc Version 1.0 OEM. ???MBP15"...

2z691-6791-A & 2z691-A6781-A

You could just skip all the matching up OEM disks stuff (I mean, unless you really, really want to have the disks).

If you have (or get) a developer account you can download the OS directly - https://download.developer.apple.com/Mac_OS_X/mac_os_x_version_10.6_snow_leopard_build_10a432/mac_os_x_v10.6_build_10a432_user_dvd.dmg

And then after it's installed, apply the 10.6.8 combo updater - https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/041-98151-20191017-dd149ff4-aa3a-4b37-8737-f3741b94d9f9/MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg

And that is based on things like this where a grey Disc covered several models of the same time...

free dev account only useable for beta testing before the general public beta testing at least that how I see it on my end. I don't see anything else in regards of snow leopard. :(

I know there other old versions that apple allows you to download but they don't offer snow leopard. The earliest showing is lion before mountain lion on the list of downloadable macOS that apple given out for anyone to just download for free. I just heard that snow leopard uses far less resources and what not. After all this MacBook can only have 8gb of ram max which it already has. I just tried the last known update for this mac and man it sure uses a lot of ram. So I went down to mountain lion. Idk I guess for me I just want to put this mac back to its former glory of its first Operating system. :)

Well, I can't fault you for that - literally did the same thing myself a few months ago (in a separate partition of my MacBookPro4,1).

But I can also tell you that there is no former glory there. 10.6 is so old that almost nothing works. No iCloud, no Apple Mail (you can kinda/sorta get it via IMAP), no App Store, no iTunes, no Safari (all three because of root certificates) and even the various "web browser for old Mac OS X versions" projects are defunct for that old a version. Some things like VPN are literally impossible to get working because there is no built in OpenVPN and no third party VPN version that could support 10.6 has been upgraded to OpenVPN 2.4 - and there are no servers in the world left on OpenVPN 2.3 or earlier.

So, installing 10.6 is kind of a cool technical challenge - kind of fun to troubleshoot - but you aren't going to have a workable Mac OS X installation at the end. More of a tech demonstrator toy.

Best of luck and hope you have a lot of fun playing with it (I did).

Thank you and I do understand. I know nothing works in terms of online stuff which isn't a big deal to me. :) I just wanted to put old games and run some old programs on it for its time. :) Heck I manage to even put my music on the iTunes from my back up so iTunes still have use at least for offline use lol.

I do have a 13" macbook 2012 laying around that I use for just casual web browsing and playing some games that only work on Catalina and what not.

But aside from that what I wanted with the old macbook pro 2010 is satisfying. Once I get snow leopard on it. I did put lion on it so I have an idea how it will go. But I am going to keep on looking for the regular dvds for the model. Thanks again though for everything on trying to help. I did find another site that sells OEM copies for the model. :)

Btw. Thats cool you have a Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 15" (08). I did have a late 2008 model one but the trackpad was not working correctly so I returned it to the seller. And just ended up getting a 2010 model. :)

Next up... Finding a 2006 mac xD or perhaps not I'm not sure yet lol.

Hello BDAqua. Thats for the 13 inch not the 15 inch one I have. Thanks though for at least looking. I saw that one days ago but since it say 13 inch that wouldn't work base on what I read online that it has to be the 15 inch one that goes with the model of my macbook 15 inch. Which is just the base model 15 inch with the i5 @ 2.4ghz

Thanks. I made the mistake of ordering this Apple Mac Box Set (MAC OS X SNOW LEOPARD, ILIFE, IWORK) - Perfect Condition | eBay days ago. lol Nearly here but from what I gather that one is just an upgrade lol.

The thing is I been reading online that even if you get a retail dvd of snow leopard 10.6.3 comes with a earlier build that don't have the drivers. Compare to what came with the macbook pro 15" 2010 Recovery DVDs.

Thanks for the help though.
