Is the Keychain App affecting my iMac's speed?

My Wife's computer can take anything unto 5 minutes to open and can't understand why I reinstalled the OS but it's still the same could it have anything to do with the Keychain containing loads of old data the the Keychain App won't let me delete.

You are running Sonoma on a slow, mechanical HDD. Sonoma will never run anywhere close to fast on that machine. It wasn't designed for an HDD.

From what I can tell, you should have a Fusion Drive (part SSD and part HDD), but there is nothing in the report indicating you have an SSD installed. Is that a custom configuration you purchased, or did your SSD die?

If there is not an SSD in that Mac, I would suggest getting an external SSD to startup from: Should I get an SSD to boot Sonoma to my … - Apple Community

The base model 21.5" iMac's come from the factory with a slow Mechanical 5400rpm SATA 3G Hard Drive.

As BDAqua pointed out, the Hard Drive speed is down from around 80 to 90 MB/s to 65 MB/s.

I also suggest completely uninstall and doing away with CleanMyMac for several reasons.

1) CCM is slowing down her already somewhat slow iMac's performance.

2) CCM is crashing and causing who knows how many other issues.

3) CCM is junk ware and is not need to clean or maintain macOS.

Be advised merely removing "cleaning" scams is insufficient to reverse the damage they are capable of inflicting.

Erase the Mac. Or, restore it from a backup created prior to using the aforementioned junk. Those things are destructive in nature. It's what they do.

Yikes...

Write speed: 65 MB/s

Read speed: 63 MB/s

My 2019 iMac21", using slow USB3.1 SSD...

   Write speed: 415 MB/s

    Read speed: 407 MB/s

CleanMyMac X is crashing, either use the free AppCleaner…

https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

Or..

Uninstall CleanMyMac per their directions , then run etrecheck again to see what chaff it left...

This will include CleanMyMac ,<< aka << “ BrickMyMac

As the aka name implies

Start over from Scratch

For Intel computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac followed by How to reinstall macOS

If going this route - I suggest Not using Startup Assist to migrate everything back.

This will probably Re-Introduce the existing  issue at the time TM Backup was made namely " BrickMyMac "

Thanks for the advice. I have run the EtreCheck Report and cut and pasted it from my wife's Mac and attached it to this post as requested.

In answer to BDAqua, I have CleanMyMac X running on my Wife's Mac as well as my own.

Further information: This problem has existed but worsened from new, after the backup data was loaded but my wife thought it was 'normal.'

Thanks for the latest advice. I did as suggested and completely removed CleanMyMac and checked for the any library files but there were none.

My wife's perception is that apps are loading faster than they were but mine is if they are its only marginally.

So I ran the EtreCheck Report again (attached). It does show slightly improved read write performance from 65/63 MB/s to 71/77 MB/s but still very slow. Incidentally the Report took approximately an extra 2 minutes to generate.

Any other things I should do or suggestions.

I have carried out the removal of CleanMyMac and then reinstalled Sanoma 14.6.1. At first everything was running like a three legged dog (10 minutes for startup) but the following day my wife reported that it seemed much better. Toady it took 3min 10secs to start up and after that Apps open in a minute or so. So I have run the EtreCheck Report again (attached) which incidentally still took just over 6 mins to run and the Read Write times are still poor. Having said that the performance overall is infinitely better than it was.

Thank you all for your help.

This machine, according to Apple, can be configured at Time Of Purchase with >>

As my learned colleague has pointed out, there is no mention of a Fusion Drive ( SSD / Rotational Drive ) appearing in the Etrecheck report

So it does beg the questions already presented by @Barhey-15E !

Failed SSD for a Custom Configuration ?
