Recently, I cropped a lot of my videos to make them look better. For some reason, this completely ruined the thumbnail they already had, and a bunch of my videos now have just plain black thumbnails so I don’t know which is which. Is there a way to change the thumbnail? Preferably without the use of editing software; I don’t want to have to redownload all the videos.

I haven't cropped videos on my phone, just on my Mac. But it sometimes takes a while for the OS to re-scan to update thumbnails. How long has it been?

Try duplicating the video-- it may make a new thumbnail for the new version.
You could try other manipulations-- moving to an album, clipping off the last frame, stuff like that.

I cropped the photos yesterday sometime in the afternoon. I thought they would re-scan the thumbnails overnight like they usually do, but that hasn’t happened yet, so I was a little worried they’d be stuck with the black thumbnails forever.

The restart didn’t seem to work. Maybe I have to wait a bit longer? I’m guessing there’s no other way to change the thumbnails, right?
