Unpaired AirTag will not pair again

I was alerted the battery was low in my AirTag so I replaced it. It wasn’t registering the new battery so I tried removing the AirTag and also changed the battery for a bitterant free one. Once installing the new battery, I hear the chime but it does not let me connect to it again. If I hold my phone over it, I get a safari link saying to learn more about the AirTag. Does this mean someone else has paired to it?

Hi, Just went through this with two AirTags, what I did was:

  1. Take off the metallic cover with the apple logo.
  2. Take out the battery
  3. Place it again and without placing the cover, press on the battery and try to move it clockwise while pressing the batter, it makes a sound so you will know the AirTag got the battery.
  4. Repeat the third step until you hear a different sound (it took 5 times with one and 9 times with the second airtag)
  5. After the different sound it immediately popped on my iphone

Hope it works for you

Unless you actively remove this tag from your Apple ID, no one else can pair it with their's. Replacing the battery, or even resettig it will not change that fact.
