Depending upon iPad model, the iPad with have either an Apple Lightning port - or a USB-C port. Should you wish to connect wired EarPods or other headphones that have a 3.5mm plug, you will require an adapter:

Be aware that when using either of these adapters, you'll not be able to simultaneously charge your iPad. If this is any issue - and your iPad has a USB-C port, you might instead consider using a third-party USB-C hub that in incorporates both a 3.5mm audio jack along with other USB connections - including a USB-C PD (Power Delivery) connection.
