Can't access photos on MacBook Air using "Choose files to upload" in Facebook

Can't upload photos to create a post in FB (and some other apps). I get "open photos to see your photos in this list" message...but I have Photos open. Things I've tried:

change preferences to "use as system photo library" - this option is grayed out so I assume it is already set to this option.
change privacy settings to allow FB app to access photos - FB app is not listed as one of the apps allowed to access photos. Could not find an option in the Privacy tab to add apps, only select/deselect.

My photos are stored in the default location.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.14

One of the best ways to get around 3rd party upload systems is to use Photos' "File>Export>Export nn Photos" to send the pictures you want to upload to a folder you create, maybe on your Desktop. Then you can point the upload routine to the folder-- this always works. Then you can delete the folder, if you like.

One big advantage is that, with Export, you can control the size, quality, format, and included personal information without depending on the upload site to take care of those things.

Richard, I can't thank you enough for this effective workaround. It has been an ongoing challenge and no one else has been able to provide me a workable solution. I just tried this approach and it worked great. Thanks again for taking the time!
