Immediately after updating to 17.6.1, apple pages app on pro max 14 continually crashes upon opening.
I can’t access any of my 3,700 files. I keep recipes on it, which I need for work, so this is a major impact. I rely on pages to function to do my job.
Here is the message I get:

Check that you have updated Pages to v14.1 from the iOS App Store. Next, reboot your iPhone. This is the status on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pages never crashes.
if your files are not stored on an Apple filesystem (ioS local, or iCloud Drive) this may contribute to the crashing issue.
All updated. My files are stored on icloud, but why is that a concern?
Is pages truly limited to reading only from an apple file system?
I have been hobbling along by using the files app to search for documents, then it opens in pages. The bug is limited to the pages search function.
Seems like it may be time to delete pages and switch to another more universal word processor.

On iPadOS 17.6.1 my Pages documents are stored on iCloud Drive and I have no issue accessing them in Pages v14.1 for iPadOS. I have no issue with the same operating system and version on my iPhone, though I prefer the larger iPad interface.
Note that iCloud is a convenient location for file storage, but is not a backup solution. If you delete a file on it, Apple only provides an ongoing 30-day window to restore the document. If your iCloud Storage capacity is close to or fully depleted, this will cause all manner of application ills that attempt to write there.
When you are using the Pages Search field to locate documents, the keyboard has its shift key pre-selected and will capitalize the first letter of the filename for that search entry. If your document names all begin with a lower-case letter, then the search will fail unless you press that shift key to switch it off.
Nothing on earth can open Pages documents but Pages. Switching to another word processing application will strand your 3,700 Pages documents unless you open and convert each one to Word docx. That would be a sobering experience.
Yes apple’s imposed hurdles can often be sobering experiences. Given the steadying decline in typing and editing functions (including text messages) assumedly neglected in favor of AI race pursuits, I think it’s time to give up on pages. I can’t be negatively impacted professionally by apple’s neglect of their products.
I can search and create documents fine on my ipads but not phone.

In addition to the search function not working, I also can’t create any new documents. So it’s dead in the water for me. Gotta move on unless there’s a fix quickly.
Do you have a Mac? Maybe you can try to open and edit the Pages with the Mac version, I find mine is quite stable.
