File format not supported when uploaded pics and videos to Photos app

I uploaded pics and videos from my Iphone 12 mini with version 17.5.1 to my PC which has Windows 10 today and numerous files were unsupported. I deleted the uploaded pics/videos and changed the settings (forget where) from high efficiency to most compatible. Same thing happened when I uploaded the pics/videos. When I looked back through my pic's this has been happening since June 2023. How do I get all of these pic's back?

You changed the Camera Settings from HEIC to jpg, and that's good, but you may need to also change the Photos Settings for transferring pictures. At the bottom of the Photos settings you can choose Automatic or Keep Originals. If you've chosen the originals to be jpegs, then you may want to choose Keep Originals. I don't use Windows, but it may be that Automatic might be better, if the phone detects that that's what the PC wants. I'd just try each and see what works better.

You may need to find an app to convert the pictures you already downloaded. I had thought that Windows (maybe 11?) had gotten more tolerant of newer formats.
