That sounds like the message you get from Optimized Battery Charging. If you have Optimized Battery Charging enabled in Settings>Battery, when the charge level gets to 80%, you'll get a message that the phone is going to stop charging until it cools down. This does NOT mean the phone is overheating. It's just the phone doing what it's supposed to do.
