You should note that for your iPad to install an available update, its battery must be charged to at least 50% capacity - and/or be connected to its Power Adapter. The iPadOS 18 rollout to iPad Pro M4 models has been temporarily suspended by Apple. There is an issue, currently being investigated, that can cause the M4 models to become permanently disabled following update to iPadOS 18.
As soon as the underlying issue has been identified and resolved, iPadOS 18 for iPad Pro M4 will be re-released. Apple have not, as yet, indicated when the update will be again be available for your model of iPad Pro.

I'm not sure you can return to iPadOS 17. You can't downgrade from one production version to a lower one – and it looks like uninstalling the iPadOS 18 beta might result in installing the production version of iOS 18.

The current production release is iOS/iPadOS 17.6.1
iOS/iPadOS 18 has not yet been released as production software - release being expected later this year. While a public beta program is currently available, this is unfinished software.
