I have been trying to get this phone to play the sound for AGES. But no matter what I do it always says “sound pending” but it NEVER plays! The phone is connected to WiFi. The phone has a working sim. It is updated. It is on. I feel like I am losing my mind. I have brain damage and would rely on this function to find my phone. How do I fix this?

I don't suppose you have a VPN installed?
If so, get rid of it. That's what's causing the problem.
If not, disconnect from the WiFi. Something in your router settings could be causing a problem.
I found this on Locate a device in Find My on iPhone - Apple Support (CA):
* If the device is offline: You see Sound Pending. The sound plays the next time the device connects to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. For AirPods and Beats headphones, you receive a notification the next time your device is in range of your iPhone or iPad.
Perhaps it's not as connected as you think. Maybe it finally ran out of battery charge?
Try dialling it anyway. If it's powered down or not in range of cell service, you'll get a "customer not available" message (or something similar) or a voicemail redirect from the cell service provider.
Is this a sound that you ask it to play remotely to help you locate it?
What about dialling it from another phone?
Yes. That sound. And I use my iPad to try and locate my iPhone. That’s why I use the “find my phone” app and not call it.
i am talking about this. When I press it, it says “sound pending” no matter what I do. I have literally just updated my phone AGAIN, this time to 17.6.1 and it is still not working.
