My Macbook Pro M2 2002 (A2338) can't connect to 6GHz network

Today I installed a new router, the Netgear Nighthawk RS700S Wifi 7 router which has 2G, 5G and 6G wifi. My iPad Pro can connect to the 6GHz network SSID but nothing shows up on the Macbook. The specs say my version of Macbook Pro does have Wifi 6 capability so why can't I get it to connect? It won't even show the SSID. Any troubleshooting assistance would be appreciated.

802.11ax, which your Mac supports, can get you high speeds using advanced modulation on 5GHz networks.

However, using the 6GHz band, sometimes referred to as Wi-Fi 6E, was only introduced the year AFTER your MacBook Pro was released.
