Recover barely overwritten file on USB?

I accidentally started to replace one photo library with a different one on a USB drive. I stopped the process of replacing/updating the file but it had done some overwriting. When it did stop, the original file disappeared off my USB stick. Is it still there somewhere? Time machine is not activated (I know).

Thanks.

They are more stable, is that it? This error was all me but going forward I’d like to have a better system. Thinking of still using Photos but not as one big library. Somewhere I read that I can store the photos as individual files/folders. And I guess an SSD would also be good for turning Time Machine back on. 😬

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!
