iphone 8 hardware does not support higher than

Current: iOS 16.7.10, released August 7, 2024

iPhone 8 - Wikipedia

it's the choice of app developer what minimum ios they wish their app to support

if you need to use an app with a higher requirement than your phone then your have 2 options

  1. as you mention purchase a new phone
  2. reach out to the developer of said app and ask if they are planning on supporting older devices too some developers does and as such has 2 versions of their app How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
