Wanting to sync via iCloud, but my technophobic nature is panicking. If I do this, will the iPad just show a copy of my phone contents? Or, following sync, can I still have different apps on different devices without their becoming amalgamated?
Asking for me - my friends will probably already know this!

The iCloud synchronization is only for the data. For instance you can synchronize your contacts or calendars between the 2 devices.
Typically, apps are only installed on the device on which you download them. Yet there is a setting that allows apps downloaded on one device to be automatically installed on another device. You’ll find it as “App Downloads” in Settings > App Store. I personally turned off that setting because I don’t want the same apps to be downloaded on all my devices.

Thanks very much. This is exactly what I needed to know. I've now disabled that setting too.
Mainly, I just don't want social media on my phone - it's okay on the iPad.
