Blu-Ray 1080p digital copy in Apple TV library prevents purchase of 4k version

Have you used that card from a Blu-ray case that has a code to redeem a digital copy? Do you have a Movies Anywhere account? Then you may have a movie show up in Apple TV but it will be stuck in 1080 resolution forever. It won’t automatically upgrade to 4k as it would if you bought it from Apple originally. The solution is to buy the 4K one from the Apple TV store. But there is a problem. Apple TV will misidentify the Blu-ray digital copy as a purchase from Apple and will prevent you from buying the 4K. If you call Apple they have no idea how to solve this. I found that the only way is to contact Movies Anywhere directly and ask them to delete the old copy. They can do it easily and it will automatically disappear from Apple TV too which allows you to buy the 4K. Do not try to delete the movie from iTunes yourself because that will not work.
