Changing language in Word
I used to have language box in the top bar when using Word. Then it disappeared. Now I can change using fn+delete, but not access the keypad

What different language keyboards do you need to use? Tell us what you have at system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > input sources.
Do you see this problem is other apps too?
Write in another language on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

Very odd. Try and safe boot and see if that helps
Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support (AL)
By "Keypad", do you mean the Keyboard Viewer?

Could you post a screenshot that shows the missing input menu at the right end of the menu bar when Word open? I can't duplicate this (but I am only on Ventura at the moment).
Do you perhaps have Word in full screen mode, where the menu bar is not visible unless you move the cursor off the top of the screen? Is this the latest version of Word?
The Help you refer to has nothing to do with your problem, which relates to input sources and not to display languages.
To post a screenshot, just do Command Shift 4 and select the area in the top right corner. To put it in here you click on the picture icon at the bottom of the text box. Mine looks like the below for Word, and if I click on the US icon I can see various keyboards and also a place to choose Keyboard Viewer.
Thanks!
Try going to system settings > control center and remove some items from the menu bar.
For future reference, the picture icon for adding a photo here is just two beyond the link icon.
Urdu and ABC - Extended. It is available in menu bar in all Apps except in Word, where I need it. It used to, but not anymore. But that's where I need it most. I'm old and sometimes have to consult Keypad to recall the combination of keys.
Thanks. My system is Sonora 14.6.1. My Word is version 16.88. I've been updating automatically. No, I'm not using full screen mode. Help says:
But in my case, there is no Options under File.
I'm sorry but I'm not able to post a screenshot. Curiously, under Review > Language > I find two languages listed above the line: English (US) and Ukrainian. I have don't even know Ukrainian. And I cannot remove it. It is listed in language choices along with four more Indian languages. But Urdu is not in that list.
Thanks. Mine used to look like yours in both Word and apps such as Safari and TextEdit. It still does in other apps but not in Word. I took a screenshot but couldn't figure out your instruction. Sorry about it. I found a link icon but no picture icon. So I did some crude copy and paste. Below is of a Word page
I did. Now have only 4 items to show in menu bar. Made no difference in Word. Still no language icon/box. It shows in Safari and TextEdit. But not in Mail and Word.
Here is a way to bring up Keyboard Viewer without the input menu
