Final Cut Server in 2024. Is it usable?

I have an old MBP Early 2008 and I have a newer Macbook Pro with macOS Monterey and I've been thinking of using the older MacBook running El Capitan as a Production server for FCPX. Does Final Cut Server 1.5 from 2009 work with all NLEs in general or does it have to be an older version of FCP, say FCP7?

Final Cut Server was discontinued in 2011, and the last version is from 2009. I never used it but I can’t see it working with today’s Final Cut Pro.

Take a look at Arctic (formerly Final Cut Library Manager). It seems to me that it is the tool you need. I expect others with direct experience with these tools to weigh in on this.

Arctic is nothing like Final Cut Server in any way, shape, or form, apples to onions. I used to design and install FCSvr systems pretty much full time, until Apple killed it off and left a lot of folks high and dry. FCSvr was based on Post-Gres database, which has evolved since then, and was able to work with any NLE, but integrated with legacy FCP way more tightly than anything else. It was a best of class media server and nothing since has come close. Although I'd recommend You'd have to install a 2009 version of Post-Gres, also. No clue where you'd get that. And Apple has integrated it into macOS so much, you'd probably have conflicts. I highly doubt any macOS version after 2009/2011 would run FCSvr. That said, look at KeyFlow Pro and Kino, they're the closest you'll get to that with FCPX today.
