The update volume could not be mounted for the target - Macbook Pro 2019 i9

Tried running Disk Utility first aid and came across this error - Some APFS cryptographic state information was unexpectedly unavailable.: (-69461). I'm not able to update to Ventura 13.16.9 or Sonoma without seeing the error in the title.

See attached screenshot. Is there a way to resolve this without having to erase the current volume? I saw a few forums indicating that it didn't work. Currently running macOS Ventura 13.3.1 (a) (22E772610a)

I really need macOS Sonoma to upgrade to Xcode 15

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.3

You can try a DFU firmware Revive to reset the T2 security chip & system firmware.

I suspect you have a bad Logic Board with that error. Run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for possible clues. I bet you will see a lot of Kernel Panics listed, probably a lot involving the T2 security chip which will be referenced by "ProxiedDevice-Bridge" panic logs.

You can try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. Unfortunately the diagnostics rarely detects problems even when hardware issues have been confirmed through other means.

Before you do anything else.....make sure you have a good backup now while you still can. If the Logic Board is bad like I suspect, then you may not get another chance. Make sure to keep frequent & regular backups since that is the only way you can recover your data in case of a hardware failure.

FYI, the MBPro 16" (2019) has an extremely high rate of Logic Board failures. There are numerous posts on this forum recently where people have had their Logic Boards replaced....even the replacement Logic Boards have been having issues. I don't recommend spending any money on repairs....the money spent on repairs is definitely better spent going towards a replacement laptop.
