How do I prevent my laptop from sleeping when closing the lid after I connect to an external monitor?

closing the lid of the display is a request for the Mac to go to sleep. if you want to use it in closed display mode, you MAY be able to, provided you meet all the conditions:


connect the external display.

connect a stable external power source, this does NOT work on battery alone.

connect an external keyboard and pointing device.

THEN try closing the lid
