connecting apple superdrive to mac book air m1 13"

i am trying to connect the apple superdrive to 13" mac book air M1, with the A2119 EMC3279 adaptor ( its got a C type male, at one end & a USB - A, C-type female & HDMI female on the other end ).

the C-type male (of the adapter) is connected to the MBA & the superdrive to the USB-A female, of the adaptor.

on connecting the power plug to the MBA directly, it doesn't seem to charge but on connecting the power to the C-type female socket of the adapter, it seems to charge.

Even on doing this, it seems that the drive is not functioning as it should be.

what am i doing wrong ?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.6

That seems to be the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

About the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple Support

The Apple USB SuperDrive has a reputation about being picky about power, and I usually see people saying to connect it directly to a Mac without an optical drive – either directly to a USB-A port, or to a USB-C port with the aid of an Apple USB-C to USB adapter.

I don't know how the amount of power provided through the USB-A port of the Apple USB-C DIgital AV Multiport Adapter compares to the amount of power provided through the USB-A port of the Apple USB-C to USB adapter – so it's hard to say if that might be the issue. I only raise it as a possibility.

This is the one that people usually mention:

USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

But, as I said before, I don't know that you need to use it. I just know that the USB SuperDrive has a reputation for being picky about power, and that people on these boards recommend using this adapter as opposed to plugging that drive into a third-party adapter, dock, or hub. I haven't seen enough posts about people trying to use the USB SuperDrive with the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (A2119 version) to know what people of the odds of that combination working.

Another possibility is to use a third-party optical drive, especially one that has its own power supply.

many thanks Sir,

yes, the adapter i'm using is the AV one, the A2119. i have another one too but that is the one with the lightening connector & the USB-A female ( cant figure out the model no# )

are you trying to explain to me, i will need one more adaptor, which is on a USB type C to USB A female ??

I'm not saying, for certain, that you need another adapter. I haven't seen many posts here reporting how well that drive works with the USB-C DIgital AV Multiport Adapter one way or another.
