Can I mirror the screen of my mcbook to an epson eh-ls800 ultra short distance beamer?

Some beamers say they have bluetooth; WLAN, ApplePlay2 etc connectivity. But apparently screen mirroring does not work with these options. The beamer I found explicitly mentioning screen mirroring cost 6000 dollars (3 times as much as others not mentioning mirroring)

In my opinion, you should seek out a beamer/projector that connects directly to you Mac with a Premium-quality CABLE.

A 8-bit color 4K display at 60 Hz refresh uses more than 14.4 G Bits/sec bandwidth over a Premium or ULTRA HDMI cable. Over a one meter or shorter DisplayPort connection, it uses more than 17.28 G bit/sec.

The best Wi-FI connection over 5GHz band can give you in the neighborhood of 1.300 G Bits/sec, more than ten times slower speed connection. But Bluetooth is limited to the 2.4 GHz band, so it will probably be MUCH lower. if you need to work in an unknown Customer office environment, their 'network neighborhood' may not have any available unused Wi-Fi channels -- they may have a nearby access point using every available channel.

To send that much data 'over the air' it needs to be strongly compressed, and decompressed when it arrives at the beamer/projector. That will NOT be a loss-less compression -- data WILL be thrown away.

The clarity of picture and sound you can send over a cable to the beamer/projector is Far higher, and the picture and sound obtained will be vastly superior.

If you have to connect wirelessly it's even more reason to use an Apple TV 4K. That's what I use. It's as reliable as it is phenomenal. It's connected to a 4K projector throwing an eleven foot image, and to my eyes at my theater seating positions it's equivalent to viewing a Retina display on the latest Macs.

Everything is wireless up to the HDMI cable from the ATV to the PJ (about 25 feet).

  • According to some employees at tech outlets mirroring does not always work.

To be clear, I am thinking of "mirroring" as using two displays simultaneously, and they're right — due to frustrating and often poorly implemented DRM restrictions. The Apple TV isn't that. It's designed to do what you want.

If you have the opportunity visit an Apple Store, look at the Apple TV 4K, and ask questions. They won't have any projectors, "beamers" or otherwise but the idea is the same.

I think you will only get reliable recommendations from someone who uses that exact model beamer, and the number of people on this site using it is going to be a very small number.

To a Mac, it's just another external monitor, so as far as I know it — should — work. I strongly caveat that statement with the fact I only use screen mirroring with an AppleTV: Apple TV 4K - Apple

Like a Mac, an Apple TV just "sees" an external display. Or monitor, or projector, or beamer... it's all the same to it, and I don't know of any HDMI-compatible device that won't work. Plug it in and it works.

When using certain streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon etc their entertainment products typically object to screen mirroring as they consider it some kind of DRM violation, and all you get is a black screen. When asked they will say it's because the device is not HDCP compliant, which may or may not be true. For example I happen to know Netflix frequently objects to using the built-in screen of a portable Mac as it considers it not HDCP compliant and of course that's nonsense. That won't happen with Apple TV (the service, not to be confused with the Apple TV hardware): Apple TV+ - Apple

Anyway that beamer looks like an attractive device, but you will need to perform your own research for a definitive answer. You should certainly look into getting an Apple TV 4K since that's what it is designed to do.
