Mouse Click Issues After Updating (Sonoma)

Hi, this thread is locked, but experiencing the same or similar issue in Aug 2024.

DESCRIPTION: Certain apps/windows become unresponsive to mouse clicks intermittently. The 'give away' (in Finder at least) is that the red, yellow & green buttons appear greyed-out until I mouse over them, then they turn colored - so they are responding to mouse-over but they do not respond me mouse clicks.

This is happening intermittently for me. Programs I've noticed being affected include:

  • Finder
  • Logic Pro
  • Brave Browser

SETUP: Mac Studio M2 | Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93) | Apple Trackpad or Logitech Mouse (both display the same behaviour).

WORKAROUND: Quitting the app and restarting provides a temporary workaround.

Download the Application Etrecheck ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet " but only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid for added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Does this issue Only occur using the " Logitech Mouse " in Both Regular Mode and Full Screen Mode

The link did mention McAfee Third Party Security Software as was " Norton antivirus " also Third Party Security Software and " MX Master 3 " which is a Third Party Mouse

That is only just the First of 13 pages long thread

On the 3 devices I am using, 1 - M1, 1 - M2 and 1 M3 using either an Apple Trackpad or an Apple Magic Mouse

I can not duplicate this issue under previously macOS 13 Ventura or current macOS 14.6.1 Sonoma

No. As mentioned in the initial post, the Apple Trackpad & Logitech Mouse both display the same behaviour

> The link did mention McAfee Third Party Security Software

It did, but I don't run any 3rd part virus/security software

> That is only just the First of 13 pages long thread

Yes. I went through it all. I linked to it so as to reference that I am not alone in experiencing this issue and that it's ongoing but only affecting a subset of people, but none of the solutions contained within it seem to work.

> I can not duplicate this issue under

I'm not surprised. It's clearly not affecting everyone. In fact I've had Sonoma installed for a while and it has only become an issue recently (presumably caused by a change I made or the most recent update I installed).

Use apps in full screen on Mac

Screen Shot with Safari in Full Screen Mode

Screen Shot with Safari in Full Screen Mode and Apple Magic Mouse

Mouse Over Above and Top Most of screen
