Why won't my iPad come up as an AirPlay device on my MacBook Air?

I’m trying to mirror my MacBook Air to my IPad Pro screen to digitally draw and my IPad doesn’t show up as a device for sidecaring. I know the devices are both in the range of devices compatible with sidecar and it’s works with my laptop if I connect it with my TV… Why won’t my iPad show up as a option for it? They’re both under the same Apple ID and updated to the latest versions? I don’t get it? They’re both under the same internet and both have Bluetooth enabled and they don’t have problems connecting to other Bluetooth devices. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I should be checking?
