The CD-player has a USB2.0 Slim Drive male connection plug.
What adaptor will I need to connect the CD-player to my MacBook Air (13-inch, M3, 2024).
The slot next to the power slot is already used for the monitor.
I expect that I will need the third slot on the left side, to perhaps the small round one on the right side.

It doesn't have to be USB 2.0, specifically. USB 3 is backwards-compatible with USB 2. If you get a USB-C (male) to USB-A (female) adapter which can handle USB 3 speeds, it could be useful for attaching USB 3 backup drives – not just that USB 2 optical drive.
The plug IS a male USB2.0, and the laptops HAS a female USBC entry!
The adaptor must connect those.
The M3 MacBook Air has two multi-purpose USB-C (USB, USB4, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, charging) ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, and a headphone jack.
You cannot use the MagSafe 3 port or the headphone jack to attach a drive.
