I already have an iPhone 7 and it won’t allow me to download apps until I update from iOS 15 to more recent iOS

The current version of iOS to support iPhone 7 is iOS 15.8, you cannot update past that due to hardware limitations.

The iPhone 7 cannot run iOS 16 or iOS 17.

If you want to run iOS 16, you need an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X.

If you want to run iOS 17, you need an iPhone XR or higher model.
