Fully charged iPhone SE losing battery charge when switched off

I have an iPhone SE that’s about 2 years old. Last night I fully charged my phone before switching off for the night. I always close any apps running before switching off. iPhone was definitely charged to 100%. When I switched it on this morning the battery was at 40%. I had no apps open and WiFi was off as I generally only use my phone as a phone as I have an iPad for everything else. It was definitely charged to 100% so why would the battery drain to 40% in 8 hours whilst turned off?

Thanks

iPhone SE

Force closing apps serves no purpose at all unless a particular app is hung. Especially if you’re switching it off.

WiFi being on or off is completely irrelevant if the device is powered off.

Are you actually powering it off or just putting it into standby?

What do you see in in Settings>Battery>Battery Health?
