Pages for iPad does not let me edit the paragraph styles

I am using Pages 14.1 via my iPad to edit book chapters for a client. The first three chapter went smoothly. On the fourth chapter, though, when I try to create a new paragraph style for long quotes (as I had done previously in the first three chapters), the EDIT option under “Paragraph Styles,” is unavailable (faded out).

What changed with this chapter? Does is have anything to do with the shared document settings? Thank you, in advance, for any help.
