my phone settings have always been to use safari as default. One day it changed and google opens by default. If I go to settings on my
phone, Safari IS still check marked as my default. So if I do the steps noted to change my default browser, it still uses safari. And I’ve never changed this manually. Maybe an update messed this u?

I have since deleted my Gmail app so cannot confirm, but is there an option in the app to go to the Gmail settings where you can go to General > Default Apps > Browser, and change that to Default Browser App?

Well, that is as I would expect. Are you, perhaps using one of Google’s other services, and opening a link within G-Mail when this occurs?
Please check the preferences/settings for Chrome to see if it has somehow assigned itself to be the default browser.
Are you referring to your chosen web browser (Safari), or your chosen search engine (Google)?

Yes, chrome opens as browser but safari is set as default
If I click a link in my email for example, chrome opens even tho my default is set to safari.

Yes I use Gmail and when clicking from gmail, chrome is opened as default. But it never used to be that way so I’m wondering if an update has changed the way this works?
