Be patient with the procedures that Katana-San pointed to.

I spent most of a day during the iOS 17.6.1 restore/update dealing with failed updates, with my SE 2nd Gen hooked up to my MacBook Pro.

I saw this startup at least 6-8 time:

Eventually it worked, and all is well.
