How can I fix my water damaged Apple Watch?

I read all this water resistance marlarkly and decided for the very first time to take the watch to the swim with it at the pool club. Within 5 minutes my watch started SOS CALL and switched off! Now it is not charging or indicating anything! I am fuming! Can someone please provide some support and let me know what my options are?

This watch may be new to you, but it is not a new watch. It was released four years ago. The tech specs on this watch say:

Apple Watch Series 6 have a water resistance rating of 50 meters under ISO standard 22810:2010. This means that they may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean. However, they should not be used or scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth.

I suggest you make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your closest Apple Store. They can run diagnostics and let you know what options you may have.

Your rights are limited. Who did you purchase the Watch from? Apple Watch Series 6 was introduced in September 2020 and discontinued in September 2021. Apple’s standard warranty is a basic 1 year warranty that covers manufacture defects in materials and workmanship. Apple Care can extend the basic warranty when purchased within the specified time frame.

Since Apple Care is not in effect, I’d suggest you return the item to Apple and get a diagnosis and make a determination on the issue and serviceability of the watch. If it’s actually water damaged, the watch is probably beyond economical repair.

I would also note that Rolex’s don't guarantee waterproofness. Rolex, just like Apple guarantees, water resistance, not waterproofness. Rolex’s warranty is for 5 years. Apple’s is for 1 year unless Apple Care is purchased. Least expensive Rolex, Oyster Perpetual, is abut $7,000 in the US.

My point? The $6,500 difference buys a lot of Apple Watches or Apple Care or even both.

If you read the water resistance malarky thoroughly, you saw that there are things that can damage or eat away the water-resistant seals.

Was the watch in the original Apple packaging? Was the watch encased in the plastic packaging that needs to be removed to set up and use the watch? If not, the watch is not new, has possibly been used and likely had damaged water-resistant seals.

Thank you for your response. When I stated is new, I mean was purchased for me brand new from Apple and not second hand.

I appreciate that it is with the 50 meters, I was only in a paddling pool walking depth and only got splashed few times so I am 100% certain it is within the 50 meters depth lol.

I have booked it in for a repair and will see what’s the outcome and post an update for reference.

many thanks
