my apple watch series 4 died after wearing it in a pool with water mode turned on

I have an Apple Watch Series 4 and I was wearing in a pool during the summer, and it all of a sudden stopped working. I even had the water mode turned on. I have let it dry out and then put it on the charger. The watch turned on, and the Apple logo appeared, and the watch got very warm. After several hours of charging, nothing happened and so I unplugged the watch and put it up. I was wondering if I should just buy a new one or see if I could get it fixed. Any suggestions?

Water lock doesn’t alter the inherent water resistance, or the lack thereof. The water lock locks the touch controls.

If this is a failed seal, you’re headed for a replacement here, as a device with water damage won’t get repaired. Nor is Series 4 worth repairing.

It is conceivable it’s a bad battery and unrelated to immersion, particularly if that’s the original battery, but whether you want to spend on even that?
