How much would it cost me for Apple Care+ coverage for my AirPods?

A bit confused. I just purchased AirPods Pro 2. I'm considering getting AppleCare+. I see that they advertise it for $29 for 2 years of coverage. However, it also says that a "service fee" of $29 is necessary to actually replace broken AirPods I think I read somewhere.

So, my question is does it essentially cost $58 to be able to actually replace broken AirPods? If so, the initial $29 "coverage" is misleading.

Also, does that include both AirPods and the case, or just one earbud?

Thanks, I read through their policy, but it still isn’t crystal clear for me.
My specific question is: if I purchase AppleCare+ for my new airPods, it will cost $29, but if an earbud gets damaged, they will charge an additional $29 “service fee” to fix it?
If so, they are being very misleading by using the exact same 29 number.
So it would be a minimum of $58 plus tax in that situation?
what if both earbuds were damaged? Would it be $87? (Original AppleCare+ cost, plus two “service fees”)

You got it figured out. The cost with AppleCare+ to replace both AirPods would be $87. This being the purchase price of AppleCare+ and the $29 for each AirPod.

The cost without AppleCare+ would be $178. That is $89 for each AirPod.

If you just needed battery service, then it would be free if you already purchased AppleCare+ and $49 if you had not purchased it.

The choice is yours. With any insurance plan, it is only beneficial if you need it. That is the big unknown. If you never used it, you would be out $29.

The $29 is a set price you pay when you buy AppleCare. However, the costs for repairs if needed are not included in this price and are charged aside separately.

If you encounter damage with your AirPods, the cost of repair will be significantly cheaper or even free than without AppleCare, such as an insurance.

It technically wouldn’t be $58 or $87, because you might not damage an AirPod after all! If you do end up damaging 1 or 2 AirPods, it will probably be $58 or $87.

Thanks Zachyy, I think that answers my question. I still think it’s bad policy to use the same $29 amount for two separate things, and think it’s intentionally misleading to a majority of consumers who don’t ever read the fine print.

Yeah, I don’t intend on breaking them, but it would be more likely to accidentally put them in a washing machine, and/or dryer.
