Do not install any AntiVirus. Your Mac does not have a virus, so any such AntiVirus software is only going to cause problems with your computer.

As long as someone knows your email address, you can expect to receive Spam emails. Having the sender address spoofed to appear to come from your account means nothing.

Apple does provide the Hide My Email service with any iCloud+ subscription. This allows you to use any number of disposable email addresses where it is much easier to manage those spam emails.

The best way to prevent downloading malware on your Mac is to simply not open the email, send it straight to the trash, and then block the sender! You cannot receive malware just by receiving an email, you must actually open any attachments provided, which would then need to get pass Mac security. MacOS includes built-in antivirus technology called XProtect for the signature-based detection and removal of malware.

You are aware that this is a spoofed email message, and has nothing to do with your Mac, correct?

The sending email addresses are trivial to spoof in a mail message.

The “you pervert” spam campaign has been doing this sender spoofing for a while, for instance. (Loooonng thread)

What does this mean? There is no malware here, and nothing for the built-in anti-malware to detect.

Or for a second add-on to detect.

You can certainly load a second anti-malware app — which won’t solve this issue — but add-on anti-malware can itself add privacy issues. Or stability ir performance issues. Or can add “noise”; ongoing self-advertising chatter.

Outside of end-point security or some other special cases, I generally wouldn’t recommend installing a second add-on anti-malware app, either. For most of us, the built-in defenses do well, and we install our own problems. Not the least of which can include anti-malware apps, VPN apps, and other security apps

TL;DR: what you are asking for won’t address the issue you are reporting

You cannot receive malware just by receiving an email, you must actually download any files provided,…

Incorrect. There's nothing to prevent a crook from sending intended victims malware as an email attachment. In fact, it's very common. You don't always need to take a separate step to download the malware.

The good news is that these are nearly always Windows malware that will not run on a Mac. And the response to send such garbage straight to the trash is still correct.
