OAuth2 not showing as available setting in Apple Mail on XR with latest OS

My university now requires OAuth2 to connect to their mail server but OAuth2 does not show up as an available authentication method in my Apple mail settings on my iPhone XR. Do I have to use the Microsoft Outlook client?

iPhone XR, iOS 17

Set up Exchange ActiveSync on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

It's possible there may be additional steps you'll need to take to configure the account on your iPhone once the account has been converted to modern authentication. You may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft, or your IT administrator, to confirm what steps you may need to take when this happens.
