Spilled Cold Tea on my MacBook Pro, but it Still Works?

Earlier, I spilled about a pretty large amount, about 8 oz, of cold bottled tea on the keyboard of my macbook pro. Some went underneath the laptop as well. I kind of panicked and started drying it without immediately turning it off (dumb, I know).

The screen froze, which I don't know if that was a result of the liquid or of me stupidly, inadvertently mashing the keys with my towel. Anyway, I turned if off, then continued drying, let it sit for a while, and later turned it back on to see if it worked, which it did.

It seems to work totally fine, no issues at all. That being said, I've shut it back off because I'm not sure if there are internal issues I'm not seeing. Should I take it in/send it in for service? What would you recommend?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 14.5

Not having had this problem (yet!), it sounds like you may be lucky. I would make sure all the hardware is working - that is, test all the keys, test out the trackpad, play music, see if the camera and mic work (in Zoom settings, for example), make sure all the inputs work (usb, headphone jack, others if you have them), bluetooth, and wifi.

Does the computer get unusually warm? Any funny noises? How is the battery doing? You can find information about the battery in Apple Menu/System Settings/Battery, and click in the circled 'i' next to where it says "Battery Health". There is also information in System Settings/About this Mac/More Information/(scroll down to) System Report, and in that scroll down and click on Power.

Last and most adventurous, you could take off the back cover to be sure it's dry. You'll probably need a P5 Pentalobe screwdriver, which I believe are available in some hardware stores (usually in a set with others) or computer stores. Keep track of which screws come from which hole, as Apple always seems to use at least two lengths of screws for the back covers.

Of course, if anything seems amiss, the computer may need service, either from Apple or and authorized service center.
