change or disable iPhone volume buttons on side?

I have a little old lady mother that inadvertently always turns down volume when talking to someone. Her fingers get on the buttons on the side.

Is there a way to disable the volume control side buttons of her iPhone?

Thank you

iPhone 15, iOS 17

No, you can't disable changing the volume with the buttons while on a call. Your mother will need to get into the habit of holding the phone differently. Or, if she's mostly using the phone at home, of using speaker phone.

And yes, we little old ladies can learn new things. ;-)

Maybe you could find a case that covers the buttons and requires more pressure to adjust the volume.

If she needs to adjust it on purpose, she can always swipe up to change it with the Control Centre.

If she only uses it for voice calls, then maybe a flip-phone (like one of the Doro PhoneEasy models) would be a better fit for her. Texting on the numeric keypad would be a pain though.
