I created an iMovie movie earlier from my photos library and saved it in MP4 format. I would now like to add music from my Apple Music library as a background. Sorry I didn't do it while in iMovie, but too late now.
How might I add music to this movie?

You can't. You have to go back to the iMovie Project, make your changes, and e-export it.
If you are completely replacing the soundtrack, you can create a new iMovie project, import your MP4* and replace the soundtrack with the new one.
*There will be some quality loss, and you might have to pre-convert the MP4 into something that iMovie can import.
Because I have added music in iMovie as I was creating the movie. I don't know how to re-open the MP4 file of the completed movie to then add the music from my music library.

I like your idea to create a new project. With that in mind, I started that, then added the existing movie (MP4) into the "import media". All I got was the entire movie without the spreading of the individual photos and no way to add music across the entire movie.
Any ideas in creating MP4 into iMovie recognized media?
I left the computer for awhile. When I returned, the whole MP4 movie was in iMovie, with the audio line available for new audio tracts. However the original audio tract remained imbedded with the photos. Therefore I can add new audio but the old audio remains. How can I delete the old audio tract from the video?
