How to adjust MacBook Pro fan speed settings?

Hi, I recently took my laptop to a laptop shop and they downloaded a fan speed control app. They have set my laptops fan speed to 4000 RPM. However I do not know what the laptop speed is supposed to be set at or was originally set at. How do I, let the fan auto regulate or is this speed OK? I was told keeping your fan at high-speed may cause the laptop to shorten lifespan

There should be little or no need to manually control the fan's speed, so that app is probably doing you little good and just being noisy and wasting battery power. It should, however, have no negative affect on the overall durability of the laptop other than, of course, the fan itself. Without knowing the specific app, I can't offer advice about how to set it, but I'd suggest just removing it (you'll need to check the developer's uninstallation instructions).

Be very cautious about letting someone else install apps on your system without you vetting the app first. It's by no means unheard of for apps from unknown sources to be or contain malware.

Regards.
